Week 3

Glad to hear that the concept is clearer. The mentors also gave us more valuable suggestions, which were focusing on camera design and shooting.

  • The background in shot 1 can be a dirty alley with dumpsters

  • added one or two shots to display the rust texture and the motivation action by the person

  • the background can be scanned instead of modeling

  • shooting footage needs to be improved

  • Maybe for the logo reveal it could be part of the environment like it could be on the wall

For the idea mentioned by mentors, I found a reference.

Storyboard Update

Based on the feedback about displaying the broken texture and the motivation action, I plan to add one moving shot to show those two things.

The start frame of this shot focuses on the rusty bell. Then the camera moves back, and the focus shifts to the right handle. The right-hand touches it, and the motivation happens. Next, the person’s left hand also touches the handle.

Preparation for Shooting

1. Shot List

Andrea and I made this shot list for Friday shooting.

2. Detailed Storyboard

3. Equipment

We rent some advanced equipment from school for weekend shooting

Main Camera Kits

  • Black Magic URSA Mini

  • Slyder Dolly

  • Glide Gear Kits

Considering the camera movement in shot 1A is a little complex, which cannot be shot just by Slyder Dolly, I rent a stabilizer and balanced it with my camera before filming since no one among us knows how to use the steady cam.

Backup Camera Kits

  • Sony Alpha 7c

  • Stabilizer: Weebill S

VFX Kits

  • Green Cloth

  • 360 Camera

  • Chrome Ball & Grey Ball

  • Blue Tape

Filming

Shot 1A

We tried two camera movement and shot by two type of cameras.

Shot 1B

This VFX shot is a little more complicated than the previous shot. We use two C-stands to mimic the bike handle. I planned to rotoing out two hands from the live-action footage and integrate them into CG plate.

To be extra safe, I photographed both hands in focus separately since the distance between two handles may different between CG bike and the C-stands bike model. I also took clean plate of this shot.
